According to Environmental Science & Technology Online News, Western Canada is apt to experience some acid rain in the future.
Industrial expansion and the extraction of oil from depositsĀ in the Alberta province of Canada has caused increased emission of chemicals, such as sulphur dioxide, as a result of burning fossil fuels. The air pollution thatĀ is produced may cause acid rainfall.
According to studies in Canada, acidification might already be occurring. At Saskatchewan, the pH level of acid in rain has decreased over the last decade or so, dropping from 5.3 to 4.1. Since normal rainfall has a pH of about 5.6, it is clear that acidic rain is becoming more prevalent.
Environmental officials in Western Canada plan to keep the air pollution to a minimum through technology, but they are fully aware that obtaining clean air will prove to be difficult.

As long as the atmosphere continues to be polluted from the burning of fossil fuels, the occurrence of acid rain not only in Canada but in all parts of the world will be much more likely. When acid rain falls, it can potentially damage the earth’s ecosystems. I think that the problem of acid rain is important and needs attention in order to preserve the environment.
